Highgate is a lot quieter and older version of London. Perched on one of the city’s highest points, it has winding streets, historic pubs, and leafy corners. The village centre is small but full of character with independent cafés, bookshops, and neighbourhood spots that locals fiercely protect. It’s the kind of place where the walking is the main event. From the hilltop streets you can drift through Hampstead Heath, stop for coffee, and end the afternoon in a centuries-old pub. Best for: Village charm, historic pubs, literary London, quiet leafy walks.
